About

Hey! My name is Eva and I am a full-time student at the University of Connecticut in my senior year. Growing up in a family of graphic designers, musicians, tattoo artists, and more, I have always had an appreciation for the arts. As a young girl, I would ask for trips to art museums as my Christmas and birthday presents. When it comes to the visual arts, I am drawn and moved by the power of art to tell a story, evoke a reaction, and spark conversations. We are surrounded by art and visual culture every day that influences our perceptions of ourselves, others, and society as a whole. It is important that we recognize this and also see ourselves and these perceptions reflected in our art institutions. No matter one’s race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, etc., art is for everyone and everyone needs to participate in the curation of the world around them– but this can only be accomplished when we feel included and know that our voices will be heard.

I created this website as a part of my research-leadership project through the BOLD Women’s Leadership Network at UConn. BOLD, funded by the Helen Gurley Brown Foundation, gives women in their undergraduate careers the opportunity to lead an independent research-leadership project in their desired field. As an art history major planning to pursue a career in art education or curating for art museums, I decided to focus on diversity and inclusion efforts in these institutions. Not all art museums are as diverse and inclusive to different audiences as they may claim to be, and this is where the idea for this website comes from. After clicking through, I hope you are able to gain some insight into these issues that plague prominent art museums and what we can do to help effect change in these institutions. It is not an easy thing to tackle, but hopefully this website and my experiences can add to the already existing dialogues about how art museums can do better.
